I bought it for my cat. He plays with it some times. I wish it was soft, but if you buy for a dog, I think it would be great.

my four cats had a great time with this. even growled at eachother. i think this is made more for a cat, hence the name "hairball" anyhoo cool toy.

This ball is made of a hard plastic that separates in the middle, kind of like a plastic easter egg, with a metal jingle bell in the middle. My dog had this in toy in four pieces within five minutes - two halves of the ball, the metal bell, and all the yarn hair out in a clump. Very glad I did not leave the room or he may have choked on one of the pieces. This item should be recalled.
