Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Julia Sweeney says she was a "happy Catholic girl" when, one day, she walked into church and signed up for a Bible-study course. "What an eye opener that was!" she says. "Next thing you know, I was on a quest for something I could really believe in. I traveled to places like Bhutan, Ecuador, and my local Starbucks looking for answers. Would I embrace Buddhism? New Age pseudo-science? Was I a freak for feeling the way I did, or were there other people out there just like me? I was grappling with serious questions. But, somehow, a lot of the things that were happening to me seemed, well, funny." Equally comedic and insightful, Letting Go of God is Sweeney's brilliant one-woman show about her struggle with her faith. Grappling with the seeming contradictions in Adam and Eve, Noah, the Ten Commandments, and even the teachings of Jesus - and trying to understand the Bible's messages about morality, family values, and human suffering while faced with door-knocking Mormons and wise-cracking priests - Sweeney takes listeners on her very personal journey from God to "not-God". This performance was recorded on November 19, 2005, at the Ars Nova Theatre in New York City.

5 out of 5 stars Authentic with humor and humility   November 2, 2008
P. Rowe (Houston, TX USA)
I found this monolog to be charming, sincere and inteligent. Julia Sweeney struggles with a sensitive topic and reveals herself in a way that is inoffensive. As a result I have introduced her work to several friends and family.

5 out of 5 stars An interesting journey   October 19, 2008
D. Strevens (Midlands, UK)
This is a interesting, funny and very human story.

It is Julia describing her journey from doubting religion and trying to find that 'something' which would allow her to regain her faith to finally reaching the conclusion that there is no god! Even then journey is not over as the somewhat negative perception of the US public to atheism causes a few difficulties.

It is well written and well read.

Having seen the TED talk, and listening to the youtube files of the talk, I bought three copies of the CD, one for me, one for my brother and one for my mother!

5 out of 5 stars What this cd is about:   September 11, 2008
C. Lopez (Fort Collins, CO USA)
Julia Sweeney will keep you very well entertained while she tells you a story about how she started questioning her religious beliefs and finally decided to let go of god. She will explain very simple, and at the same time very compelling arguments, that she had to come up with to confront her previous beliefs. Julia Sweeney is a good story teller so the cd will not only make you think, it will also make you laugh.
The cd comes with a booklet that contains the transcript of the whole story.
I think this cd is as essential as any good reference book that would keep you keep in your library.

5 out of 5 stars clever work   September 6, 2008
Carol Diskin (sylvan lake MI)
Julia Sweeney's CD and book are both amusing and thought provoking. Although the subject matter is serious, she presents it in an amusing style that keeps you laughing and involved,
I enjoyed it very much and would recommend it to anyone who is open to ideas that go beyond indoctrination,

5 out of 5 stars Entertaining and thought-provoking story   August 3, 2008

Julia is obviously a very intelligent, compassionate person and is easily relatable. Her delivery is funny and sincere, and listening to her share the story of her personal quest for spiritual understanding is super entertaining, particularly for anyone who has ever questioned the faith they were raised in. I am not atheist but I wish more of my religious friends & family would listen to this.
